Creative, agile OO Java developer required, Cambridge, UK, up to £35k
Who we're looking for
A Java programmer to join a very small team following agile programming practices in Cambridge, UK.
Who we are
Comply Serve is a young company writing and selling a multi-user hierarchical database that is configurable so that data sharing applications can be created. It is available to users over the internet via Citrix. Our software is used by the rail industry to help them organise large projects.
What you will be doing
• You will be working on all parts of the software lifecycle - from requirements gathering, evolving a design, coding, writing unit tests, writing user documentation, bug-fixing and making tea (when it's your turn).
• You'll be working in a fun and stimulating environment.
• You be working with colleagues who have a large amount of experience. It will be a good place to learn.
• You will be based in the Cambridge office nearly all the time - but you might have the occasional trip to see customers (mainly in London) or to our head office in Birmingham for meetings.
What are you like?
• You really care about writing good, well designed software.
• You understand object oriented design. You may also be interested in functional programming ideas.
• You are keen to apply agile practices - pair programming, story cards, continuous testing, weekly planning, common code ownership etc and you enjoy working closely with others.
• You are comfortable standing around a white-board, sketching out designs and kicking around ideas with the other developers.
What you have done
• You have a numerate degree and are keen on programming.
• You are fluent in Java and can write it in the OO style. You might also know about other OO languages like Ruby, Groovy or Python.
• You have experience of Agile software development including Test-driven development.
• You are familiar with the Eclipse IDE. If you have done any RCP programming then this would be useful.
• If you don't have exactly this profile - but feel you could learn quickly then that might work too.
